Richie Mello left his prints all over Warren athletics. His 1973 Mets team captured the league championship, while he also managed Majors All Star squads.
He was the Vice President of Little League Football at its inception, coached in three separate decades (including the Eagles in the inaugural season), and served as a game official in the 1960s. For more than twenty summer seasons he was an umpire in the Warren Softball League. And for a number of years he was a member of the Warren Recreation Board, serving as its chairman in 1972-1973.
