PAT O’BLENIS LACHANCE (Athlete, Class of 2000)
Three times an All State gymnast, Pat Lachance later became an accomplished marathoner, qualifying four times for Boston during the 1990s.
Pat was a member of the Mary V. Quirk gymnastics team that won the State Junior High Championship in both 1972 and 1973. At Warren High School she was named All State three years in succession, as she led her team to state titles in 1974 and 1975 and a state runner-up placing in 1976. In 1974 she placed second in the state All Around competition, while in 1975 she and her sister Bonnie combined for more than fifty points at the state meet. Not satisfied with starring in only one sport, Pat was a member of Warren High’s 1975 Northeast Division and State Girls Track Champions and also received Central Division honors in volleyball.
After competing in gymnastics for the University of Rhode Island, while also running a summer gymnastics program for the Warren Recreation Department, she became Warren High School’s gymnastics coach from 1981 to 1983.
Pat then turned her attention to road running and, as of 2000, had completed nine marathons, four of them at Boston where qualifying times were required to participate. In 2000 she also completed one ultra marathon of fifty kilometers. She performed this latter effort in the same year that she coached a group of Seekonk, Massachusetts Youth Soccer four and five-year-olds to an undefeated season. Pictures from Hall of Fame archives
