MARY ELLEN ANNUNZIATA-NEVES (Athlete, Class of 2004)
From 1972 to 1975, Mary Ellen Annunziata was a member of Quirk Junior High School and Warren High School Girls Gymnastics squads that won four consecutive state championships.
At Quirk she finished in the state’s top five three years running and topped off this performance by capturing second in the 1974 All-Around advanced competition. Competing for Warren High School, Mary Ellen earned All State honors in 1975, 1976, and 1977. She helped her team to Eastern Division, Southeastern Regional and State Championships in 1975 and a State Runner-Up finish (preceded by an Eastern Division title) in 1976. After defeating defending state champion North Kingstown in a dual meet, the 1975 Redskins edged out the Skippers again for the state title.
Mary Ellen also was named to the first team in the Divisions in which she competed in all three seasons. She finished in the state’s top ten in All-Around competition in two of those seasons.
