MARGE BELLISLE (Athlete, Class of 2003)

Competing in the Female Masters 45-49 Class, Marge Bellisle won the 2003 USA Track and Field/Connecticut 1,500 Meters Championship in American record time.  Later in the year, even though she finished second behind Olympian Joan Benoit Samuelson in the USA Track and Field/National 3,000 Meters Championship, her finishing time was thirty-two seconds faster than the eleven-year-old United States record.

The New England Grand Prix Series Female Masters Champion in 1996 and 1997, Marge was named the Rhode Island Female Masters Runner of the Year by New England Runner magazine in seven consecutive years (1996 to 2002).

In 2001 Running Times magazine awarded her honorable mention as the National Female Masters Runner of the Year.

Marge has won a number of other female races, including marathons, throughout New England.  She finished among the top ten female Masters at the Boston Marathon in 1997, 1999, and 2001.
