LINDA FERRARA HAWKINS (Athlete, Class of 2001)

 

As a high jumper, Linda Ferrara was named All State (high school), All New England (College), and All East (College).

Linda won her first championship in 1979 when, as a junior high student at Mary V. Quirk School, she set the state high jump record in the junior high school title meet.

At Warren High School she co-captained the 1983 girls track team and was named the Most Athletic Girl of the class of 1983.  In both 1982 and 1983 she made the All State girls track team in the high jump.

 

 

 

 

Linda then matriculated at the University of Rhode Island (URI), where she was the captain of the women’s track team in both her junior and senior years.  During her time there she placed highly at such meets as the Yale Invitational, the University of Connecticut Invitational, the Harvard Invitational, and the New England Women’s Outdoor Championships.  She was named All New England and All East three years in succession, 1985, 1986, and 1987.

 

 

 

 

In 1987 she received URI’s Holmes Award for excellence in athletics and academics by a senior female.

Following graduation Linda turned to the triathlon and was the first Warren finisher at the 1989 Barrington YMCA competition.
