KAREN CABRAL BOOTH (Athlete, Class of 2007)
As a youngster Karen Cabral was a state and regional roller skating champion. While at Mary V. Quirk Junior High she starred for the school’s State Gymnastics Championship team, earning high marks in the vault, uneven bars, and all around competitions. At Warren High School she was a member of the girls track squad that captured three straight State Championships, in 1973, 1974, and 1975. In the process she earned divisional and All State honors, the latter while competing on the 440 relay team.
Karen also added to her gymnastics honors. The overall highlight of her high school sports career came when she captured the 1974 Rhode Island individual uneven bars title, for which she was named All State. In the following season she earned All Southeastern Regional recognition, as the Redskins girls, coached by fellow Hall of Fame Ann Chandler Morris, won that sport’s State Championship.
In the 1980s Karen took up both bodybuilding and bench pressing and earned a myriad of honors throughout New England.
