JOHN M. JANNITTO (Contributor Class of 2004)
An original board member of the Warren School Indoor Soccer League, John Jannitto served as the league’s president from 1972 to 1996. He also coached in the league for seventeen years and led the Redskins to championships in 1980 and 1983.
John also played a major role in Little League Baseball for more than thirty-five years. After two years of “apprenticeship” with the Yankees farm team and the Senators, he coached the Yankees from 1964 to 1999, with the team winning championships on five different occasions. But winning or losing was secondary; the important thing was that the kids loved him. Not content with just coaching, he served as Little League Baseball President from 1975 to 1980. John coached the Little League Baseball Majors All Stars in three different decades and coached the Little League Baseball Ten-Year-Olds to a District Runner-Up finish in 1997. Upon his retirement Little League Baseball honored him for his service as both president and coach. (In the 1950s John was the coach, captain, and left defenseman for the North End Skunks, who more than once defeated the Coomer Avenue Coyotes for the town hockey championship.)
