JOSEPH COCCIA (Phyllis Abbruzzi Award, Class of 2007)
The Phyllis Abbruzzi Award is periodically awarded to someone who has contributed to Warren’s athletic environment while working “behind the scenes.” Little League Baseball praised Joe Coccia in 1966 for “devoting six days a week to scoring and farm league umpiring.” Three decades later they honored him for being “scorekeeper for nearly every game for forty years.” Joe is now at fifty years and still
counting, so it’s only appropriate that he be honored by the Hall of Fame. And many years ago he also Since Little League Baseball wasn’t played on Sunday afternoons in the fall, Joe often helped out at the Midget Football League by working the sideline chains. He also served as a scorer for the Men's Softball League intermittently. And he also volunteered at the Indoor Soccer League and served as its scorer for twenty-six years.
