CHERYL SILVA BAYUK (Athlete, Class of 2002)

Cheryl Silva lettered in all four years of volleyball at Warren High School, earning All Central Division (1980 and 1981) and All State (1980) honors.  In 1981 she was a member of the Rhode Island Junior Volleyball team.

At Rutgers University, she played on the school’s Atlantic-10 Women’s Volleyball Champions and captained the team in 1985.  She was named Rutgers’ Most Valuable Athlete for the 1985-1986 school year.

Upon graduation she coached the Arthur Regional High School volleyball squad to the New Jersey State Championship.

Over the years her athletic pursuits have found her competing in such varied sports as softball, beach and indoor volleyball, and the triathlon, which she took up to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in honor of her late friend Jacquie Stokes Miller.

In recent years she returned to her first love, volleyball, and coached the Roger Williams University women’s team to the 1998 Commonwealth Coast Conference title.
