BETHANY SARDINHA (Athlete, Class of 2010)
Ten previously elected members of the Warren Athletic Hall of Fame earned individual All State honors in two or more sports: Duke Abbruzzi (baseball, basketball, and football); Donat Brochu; Kris Collins; Laurie Figureid; Hirum Jamiel; Angelo Marino; Bob Massa; Dan McConaghy; John Murphy; and Mark Rhynard. And now, in her first year of eligibility for the Hall of Fame, Bethany Sardinha, having been named All State in both soccer and outdoor track, joins her ten predecessors.
In soccer she was a member of three Mt. Hope High School championship teams: the 1995 Division Two titlists (as a freshman); the 1996 State Champions; and the 1997 State runners-up. In all three of these seasons, Bethany earned divisional honors, while also receiving All State accolades in her junior season. And then in her senior year, she was named first team All Division One and repeated as a member of the All State squad.
Bethany was named to All Eastern Division girls track teams in the 1,500 meters, and the 4 by 100 meters relay. And having finished only four and a half seconds behind Portsmouth star Laura Turner in the state championships, she was made a member of the 1996 All State group in the 1,500 meters.
Following her senior year, she was Mt. Hope’s 1999 nominee for the Providence Journal Honor Roll Girl award. Years earlier (1991, to be exact) she was a member of the Gob Shop Rockets girls soccer team that captured the Rhode Island Youth Indoor League Championship. And while competing in road races that year, she won a number of titles, including the Cardi’s Swansea thirteen and under girls crown and the Barrington one-mile fun run championship.
