ARLENE PALMIERI (Athlete, Class of 2003)

Arlene Palmieri was featured on Channel 10’s PM Magazine during that show’s first month of airing in 1979.

Arlene captured thirteen Rhode Island trap shooting championships between 1987 and 2002.  This was in addition to six state skeet shooting titles she earned.  The 1985 28-Gauge Open Skeet Championship and the 1989 Open Trap title were perhaps the most noteworthy in that she won them while competing against both female and male competitors.

In the World Trap Shooting Championships she placed ninth in the Handicap Class in 1989 and eleventh in that class in 1998.  But the highlight of her career came when she captured the World’s Doubles Championship in 1996.

(Rather than involving two partners, “Doubles” consists of one shooter trying to hit two targets sent simultaneously into the air.)

A winner of more than thirty-five trap shooting crowns overall, Arlene has often been a member of the Rhode Island Trap Shooting team.  She has frequently been joined on that team by her husband and fellow Hall of Fame member Lou.
